Dorris Dann Leadership Academy

Dorris Dann Kids Campus has partnered with the El Monte City School District to offer career and leadership opportunities for El Monte High School students. Through the Leadership Academy program, high school students are employed as educational assistants, helping with our daily programs under the supervision of our highly qualified instructional aides.

Our program aims to encourage high school students to start thinking about their futures and explore a potential career in education. Regardless of their final career choices, students gain valuable experiences and build connections before graduation, enhancing their skills for any path they choose after high school. Additionally, we offer students the chance to transition into regular positions after graduation to support them as they move into the next stages of their lives.

LEADERSHIP ACADEMY

"Working as an educational assistant, I get to interact with other staff and its taught me teamwork and collaboration, and I communicate a lot more here. When I used to attend Kids Campus, I didn't like listening to the staff, but being part of staff, I really understand the importance of listening. It's important to listen to adults because they just want to keep you safe."

Although, our Leadership Academy students serve as educational assistants to our Instructional Aides, they are still required to pass the same background check, proficiency test, tuberculosis testing, and abuse training as our Instructional Aides and Program Mentors.

They are additionally, required to obtain a work permit, and maintain a 2.5 GPA in order to continue in Leadership Academy.
