EL MONTE, CA — April 20, 2026 — In the heart of El Monte, where every act of kindness weaves a stronger community fabric, a beacon of hope has been recognized on the state’s grandest stage. Our Saviour Center is profoundly humbled to announce it has been named a 2026 California Nonprofit of the Year, an honor bestowed by Assemblymember Mike Fong (49th District).
This isn’t just an award; it is a celebration of the quiet miracles that happen every day within our walls. Chosen from thousands of organizations statewide, Our Saviour Center stands as a testament to what is possible when a community refuses to let its neighbors fall behind.
Rooted in Service, Driven by Heart
For decades, Our Saviour Center has been more than a service provider—it has been a sanctuary. From nourishing bodies through vital food programs (the sixth-largest food pantry in Los Angeles County) to empowering minds through education, the Center’s mission is simple yet profound: to transform the hardships of poverty into the triumphs of resilience.
"This honor belongs to the hands that give and the hearts that believe," said Jose Vega, Executive Director. "It lives in the tireless energy of our staff, the selflessness of our volunteers, our incredible supporters, and the incredible courage of the families we serve. Being recognized by Assemblymember Mike Fong reminds us of all that when we lead with love, we don’t just change lives—we move mountains."
A Force for Lasting Change
Across California, nonprofits are the silent engines of progress. As the state’s third-largest employer, the sector represents 1.5 million people dedicated to the common good. “Nonprofits are the soul of our society—the innovators who see a problem and build a bridge,” said Geoff Green, CEO of CalNonprofits. “We celebrate Our Saviour Center not just for their work, but for their spirit. In these times, lifting such vital contributions is more important than ever.” Bringing the Celebration Home While the state will gather for a formal luncheon at the Capitol on May 20, Our Saviour Center believes that true success should be celebrated where it was built. In late May, the Center will host an intimate local gathering in El Monte to honor the employees, board members, and volunteers whose daily devotion made this milestone possible.
As we look to the horizon, this recognition serves as a spark for the journey ahead. Our Saviour Center remains unwavering in its conviction: that with compassion as our compass, a stronger, more vibrant El Monte is within reach for everyone.
